Part of the Smithsonian Institutes series on science for nonscientists. It is referred to as the "ultimate illustrated guide for nonscientists." The book contains over 250 color diagrams and photos and is written is easy-to-understand language. The major trends in physics and its subdisciplines are discussed, and real-life applications of physics such as X-rays, sound waves and CAT scans are discussed. Along with the usual topics of physics such as motion, waves, energy, light and electricity and magnetism, more "exotic' topics such as:

Fission, fusion and the bomb
